Chapter 2: Friends to Enemies

"Please tell me this is not the ending of the story." Sonic interrupted.

Darren then chuckled lightly, "Of course not, boy. But if you want me to stop, I could jus-"

"NO!!" cried from the crowd, apparently they loved this version or the original story better than the others they heard.

Again, the older ebony hedgehog chuckled, "You guys got excited, weren't you?"

"Aw, com'on, Uncle Dar', you always do that to tease us like this!" Sonic complained when it came to Darren's special teasing way.

"That's my job, nephew." Darren declared proudly, "Alright, now where were we? Ah yes…"

He continued the story…

Everything went well to two kingdoms, until a war started.

It was called "Wrath of Magic War", several kingdoms with dark forces attacking the kingdoms with the power of light (basically is evil vs good, hehehe…). Atlantis and Cosium were the headquarters and the leaders of the other kingdoms. They were holding the chance of victorious with confidence as they would win this battle! On the field, you could imagine how bravely the soldiers fought for their homes and their loyal to the Kingdoms, roars and shouts were filled in the air, sounds of the clashing swords and weapons, along with the powers each the warriors could do.

Meanwhile, in the castle of Cosium, where it kept everyone safe, including the Princes. Although, Kaze wouldn't obey that rule. In his room, he carried his blades and wore his favourite running shoes. Before he climbed out of his window, his younger brother, Darren interrupted him.

"Where are you going, Kaze?" Darren asked his old brother.

"What do you think what I'm doing!? I should be out there and help father to fight this battle!" Kaze said in as-the-matter-of-fact tone.

"Just…be careful, okay?" Darren pleaded, after all, Kaze was his only sibling. Then he threw Kaze a small crystal bracelet.
Kaze stared at it for a while and realized that it was a gift from their grandmother for Darren, it possessed a protection spell to avoid danger or prevent harm on the owner.

Darren turned away and softly said, "Don't lose it, okay?"

The azure hedgehog genuinely grinned and replied, "You bet I won't lose it." After that, he transformed into the air as he was one with the wind. Flowing into one direction to the battlefield.

On the other hand, somewhere in the battlefield. King Mortesen was having a trouble in his condition as he was surrounded. His weapons were damaged and he didn't have much strength to attack back.

"Attack!" commanded from one of the soldiers. The warriors of darkness leaped and charged at their one enemy. Mortesen just shut his eyes and embraced what is worse.

Suddenly, a splash of strong wave smacked the dark soldiers away!! When Mortesen turned his back, he smirked as he was glad to see his comrade and his trusted ally, King Posiden.

"What took you so long?" Mortesen joked as he crossed his arms, still in tired status.

"Well, better late than never." Posiden replied with a smirk.

"That's true. Thanks for the help, but I think my wife would need your assistance right now." Mortesen told his friend.

"You sure you are going to be fine alone here?" The King of the sea couldn't help asking with slight worry.

"I will be fine, they wouldn't find me here, I'm just need a little rest to restore my energy. Now go." Mortesen reassured his friend.

"Very well, be careful then." With that, the merhog disappeared into the water.

When the King of Cosium could finally take a rest, he didn't aware a figure approached him. Mortesen slowly turned his head and noticed the figure, he muttered, "You…"

"Need a help?" said the voice from the mystery figure.

Just then, Kaze saw his father with glee as he ran towards him. "Father! I-" Before Kaze could finish his sentence, he saw blood gushed out of his father's throat and stabbed his back in a brutal way as he watched a horror scene that would scar him for life: Watching a killer stabbed through his father.

When Mortesen still had some self-conscious, he merely muttered, "Ka…ze…" those were his last words, which were his son's name.

"FATHHHHHHEEEERRRRRR!!!!!!!!!"

Kaze's scream echoed the battlefield, the killer quickly ran away and left the weapon behind. The prince ran over to his father's body and silently sobbed in grief. Then the weapon from the murderer caught to his eyes, when he reached it and stared at it for a while. Slowly, his eyes with tears had changed into flames of rage and hatred.

Cosium and Atlantis had won the victorious as they planned on a celebration! Until they were heard that the King of Cosium died on the battle, suddenly from joy to unspeakable sadness. Especially the Queen, heartbroken from the loss of her love and husband.

King Posiden felt sorry for her loss and the loss of his good friend. He shared his grief with her and the people along with the soldiers who were faithful to their King. Suddenly, a cry snapped them from sorrow.

Kaze was standing there, full of rage, with the murderous weapon in his hands. He glared at the merhogs and yelled at them.

"I saw a soldier stabbed through my father's heart with THIS!!"

With such an anger, Kaze threw the bloody spear in front of his family. Queen Athena examined the blood and with her simple magic, she could determined the dried blood on the weapon was belong to her husband!

"This is indeed Mortesen's blood!"

"We would never attack your husband or any of his soldiers!"

"Then how can you explain this!!?" Athena yelled as she furiously pointed at the bloody spear.

"This…There has to be an explanation."

While they were arguing, a messenger jumped out of the ocean and whispered something tragic into Posiden's ears. Slowly, the king's eyes were widened and stared at the people of Cosium. When they were done, the messenger jumped back into the great ocean.

Posiden glanced upon them and sadness in his tone. "Are you satisfied? My beloved wife is dead!"
"What does it have to do wit us?"

"This is special poison from deadly ivy, WHICH it only produced in Cosium!!"

"We didn't do it!!"

"Well, if you continue deny it…"

"…then our alliance is over."

"From this day forward, we, Atlantis, have canceled the alliance with Cosium. Anything happen to it, shall not be started with us!"

"From this day forward, we, Cosium, have canceled the alliance with Atlantis. Anything happen to it, shall not be started with us!"

After that tragic night, two beloved ones had lost, along with the end of friendship between the Kingdoms.

That very same night, Sapphire sneaked out of her home and swam to the same spot where she played with Kaze and Darren when they were little. When she was there, she saw no sight of a person, then she waited, until she saw Darren.

"Darren?" Sapphire was pleased to see him, but she didn't see Kaze with him. "Where's Kaze?"

The merhog soon saw the sad expression from the ebony hedgehog. Darren sighed and gave Sapphire a letter and said, "He can't come for a reason and he told me to give you this."

Sapphire carefully opened the letter and read out loud: "Dear Sapphire,

After you have received this letter, we will never see each other again. Though it is a sorrow for me and you, too. But after tonight, I have witnessed the worst nightmare of my life. Your people have killed my father. I will never forget nor forgive. Dispite of all this hatred feeling, I couldn't bring myself to hate against you, not only because of you are my best friend, but mostly because I have long been had feelings for you since we first met. Though because of my love for you, it is also a cruel fate for us, it's the best way for us not seeing each other again. The idea of it breaks my heart every moment I think of it, my feelings for you will never change nor rotten, but until then, this is for the best.

Love forever,

Kaze"

After she read the letter, she silently sobbed and tears dropped on the paper, the teardrops from the merhog had smudged some letters. She held the paper against her chest as it was her precious treasure.

She sadly looked at Darren who was standing patiently, and said, "Thank you for the delivering, Darren. It is danger for us to see each other again."

When she looked back the sea, the waves seemed as peaceful as usual, but the song of it brought the sadness and the tragic of today. "I have to go now, good-bye."

"Don't say 'good-bye'. This is just a short depart, with some distance."

"A short depart…" Sapphire repeated with a weak smile on her face, and shortly later, she jumped into the water gracefully.

The three of them were thinking the same thing: As long as they had memories of each other, they would always believed that they would be reunited someday.

However, things were as simple as they thought. You see, their "single" parents knew heir children had known each other when they were young. Since their alliance was off, along with the engagement, and with that reason, they had the right to use the "exceptional" magic to take away part of their childhood memories; the days the three met, played and loved.

Queen Athena saw the ocarina that Sapphire gave Kaze when she was little, she immediately threw it away inside the deep wood that called the "Forbidden Forest".

So year to year, the trio had forgotten one of the most precious memories and they didn't even notice. But ever since the day of the King of Cosium and the Queen of Atlantis died, the two kingdoms had changed.

The royal rule of Cosium, the prince needed to be crowned at the age of 16 and get married with a princess, if the King died. Since Kaze wasn't old enough and didn't get himself a partner, Mortesen's young brother, Rorak, temperately in control of the kingdom, which was terrible.

And without the queen in Atlantis, King Posiden had become more depress than ever. The king started overprotected his only daughter, Sapphire, he even forbid her to go to the surface, technically speaking, he was controlling her life and Sapphire didn't like it.

In another words, only time could tell if the two kingdoms would ever become friends again. And will the two destined-lovers would be together?

Soon time flew by in 10 years later…
